Junior & Senior Football Success

Well done to our Junior Gaelic Football team who showed great determination and skill to come out on top in a pulsating encounter against St. Attracta’s,Tubbercurry on Monday in Kilbride. The girls put in great displays all over the pitch and recovered from a half-time deficit to win the match by a single point. The final score was Convent of Mercy: 7-09, St. Attracta’s: 5-14. Congratulations to the entire Junior panel and their coaches Mr. McLoughlin and Ms. McHugh.

Well done to our Senior Gaelic Football team who are through to the Connacht Senior B Final after a super 7-17 to 2-9 win away to Colaiste Iognaid (The Jes) in Knocknacarra last Friday.

Éabha Dowd was rock solid in goal, with Erin McDermott and Eve McNeill leading the way in the backs. Aisling Hanly was in unstoppable form in attack, kicking 5-7. Shauna Walshi had another fine game scoring 1-3, with Siofra Hession (0-3), Ciara Dowd (0-2), Zara Fallon and Niamh Walsh (both 0-1) all contributing to the scoreboard too. A fine goal 10 minutes from time from Ava Mulry capped an outstanding team move all the way up the pitch from the full-back line.

Many thanks to the supporters who travelled up to support the girls today.

This result means we top our group with 4 wins from 4. Best of luck to the team as they prepare for the final in the coming weeks. Opponents, date and venue TBC.

Santa Dash in aid of Ronald McDonald House

County Roscommon Athletics are organising a Santa Dash Fun Run on Saturday the 10th of December in Roscommon Town. This is to celebrate our Transition Year student Ella Donlon’s return home to Roscommon and to support Ella’s charity of choice, the Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland.

Ella spent 595 days in Crumlin Childrens’ Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) provided her family with a second home and a place where Ella could be with her family and friends. The house provided a sanctuary for the Donlon family for nearly 20 months.

During their time there they met a number of other Roscommon families who benefited from the facility and they are delighted that County Roscommon Athletics are hosting this festive Santa Dash in support of a cause that is close to their hearts. Please support if you can.

Transition Year News

A team building workshop took place on Monday and Tuesday of last week in our school Assembly Hall. It was facilitated by ‘Develop Me’ from Limerick. The workshop took place over two sessions; the first section of the day entails working as a group on a board game where the groups are set a series of challenges to achieve as much gold as possible and to learn to problem solve and creatively think across the journey as a team.

The second part of the day involved the building of a bridge using the teamwork and problem solving skills developed in the morning session. The girls enjoyed the day immensely.

Many thanks to Mrs Hession for organising the workshops.
