Rugby Success

Well done to our Senior rugby team who defeated Ballygar in a convincing win recently. A dominant performance from start to finish with tries coming from Sarah Purcell (3), Katie O’Connor (2), Shauna Walsh (1), Jennifer Morris (2), Rachel McDonald (1) and Emma Hough (1). Hard luck to our junior team who lost out to Ballygar but showed great determination and fight throughout despite missing a lot of players due to injury. Well done to the girls and to their coaches Dave Purcell, Michael Glennon and Siobhan Purcell.

Gaelic Football News

Congrats to our Senior Gaelic Footballers who made it 3 wins from 3 on Monday 24th October against St. Nathy’s, Ballaghaderreen in Lisnamult pitch.

A dominant midfield showing from Aisling Shanagher and Michelle Rogers (1-0) coupled with another determined defensive performance from the backline laid the foundations for a forward line which kicked some fine scores on the day. Aisling Hanly (1-10) and Ciara Dowd (2-7) finished with big tallies and were ably assisted with scores from Siofra Hession (1-1), Niamh Walsh (0-3), Shauna Walsh (0-2), Ava Mulry (0-2) and Hannah Murray (0-1).

Final score 5-26 to 1-5. Up next is Colaiste Iognaid on December 1st.

Well done also to our Junior Gaelic Football team who had a great win away to Coláiste Bhaile Chlair, Claregalway on Wednesday afternoon.

In what was a tight and nervy game, played in blustery conditions, the girls showed great determination and teamwork to prevail on the winning side. Claregalway raced into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead but the Convent of Mercy girls quickly settled with points from Grainne Foley and Grace Campbell and goals from Maria Tiernan and Emma Hough to give us a 2-3 to 1-3 lead at the interval. The 2nd half was a tight battle throughout with large pressure being placed on our goals at times but some excellent saves from goalkeeper Ciara Corrigan and superb performances from the back 6 of Laura McSharry, Kate Harlow, Iona Hanley, Clara Staunton, Lilly Murray and Natasha O’Rourke helped to keep the Claregalway forwards at bay. This defensive platform gave the attack opportunities to flourish with strong showings from Síofra Hession, Hazel Kelly and Emily Regan before Alannah Sutton came on and struck for a decisive third goal. Further points were added by Emma Hough and team captain Tara O’Brien after good work from Eve Connaughton and Aoibhinn Neary to leave the final score: Convent of Mercy 3-7 , Coláiste Bhaile Chlair, Claregalway 2-7

Well done girls and to your coaches Mr. McLoughlin and Ms. McHugh
