BPW (Business and Professional Women’s) Public Speaking Competition

On November 25th 2017 our public speaking team won the senior All Ireland final in the BPW Public Speaking competition. Progressing from the Regional Final two weeks ago, our girls took top honours ahead of tough competition from Presentation College, Tullamore, St. Josephs College, Lucan, Presentation College, Tuam and Tullamore College. Having been successful at Regional level in the past, this National title is a first for our school and we are very proud of the girls. The BPW (Business and Professional Womens Organisation) is involved in encouraging girls to play a more prominent role in business. This event offered the girls an excellent opportunity to develop self-confidence as well as improving their communication skills. Our girls competed in the senior category of the competition. The team, consisting of Ellen Doorly, Zoe Finan and Áife Feeley spoke on the topic of Vision. The judges complemented the girls on their knowledge of the topic, ability to engage the audience, ability to respond when questioned by the judging panel and their flawless performance. To top off the successful afternoon, Ellen Doorley took an individual prize for the best speaker and Zoe Finan for the best chairperson. The standard of public speaking at this level is very high and to be awarded these accolades really is a huge achievement. The girls were presented with the National Federation of Business and Professional Womens Cup, as well as the Galway Crystal Trophy. The girls would like to thank Ms. Connolly (Business teacher) for all her help and guidance with this competition. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement girls!
