Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force Public Speaking

The Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force organised an “Alcohol and Society” public speaking project in county Roscommon. The purpose of this public speaking project is to create awareness among young people about the impact of alcohol upon society and to challenge the attitudes that they hold in relation to Irish culture and alcohol. The second years from our school were challenged to prepare a speech on the topic “Alcohol in Ireland- is there a problem?” The girls during their SPHE classes have been busy researching this topic and preparing their speeches. On Wednesday, March 27th an in-house competition was held where eight girls, Éabha Kenny, Kate Cunningham, Chloe Donohue, Laura Kropkowska, Isa Kearney, Abbey Gooney, Anna-Maria Iordan and Hannah Finan, presented their speeches to all first year students. The standard was extremely high on the day and Chloe Donoghue (class 2D) was chosen as the school winner. Chloe will represent our school in the Grand Final on Thursday, April 11th in Galway. Thanks to Ms. Gillian Conway (WRDATF) for attending the school final and Mr.Quinn for co-ordinating this event in the school. We wish the best of luck to Chloe in the final.
